We discovered Beauty Influencer Tanya Steyn from Annie Two Cents earlier on this year at the SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 launch event we hosted at Embassy Hill.
During our chat with her, we discovered that Tanya’s alter ego is Annie. She’s kind of the secret agent version of Tanya. Through her, she created this destination from where she can share her passion for all things related to beauty, travel, design, interior, and style.
Here she takes time out from creating content to chat with us.
Describe yourself and what you do in 1 paragraph:
My name is Tanya, and I’m the creator and curator of Annie Two Cents. While working as PR & social media manager for an international cosmetics brand here in SA, I started Annie Two I started a platform where I can share the products, brands, and experiences I value and enjoy. Annie is what my nieces and nephew call me and hearing it makes me happy. Hence Annie Two Cents.
How long have you been on social media?
I’ve always had an interest in social media. Since way back in the MySpace days, then Facebook and now Instagram. Annie went live on Instagram and Facebook in April 2017.
How long have you had your blog?
I created the blog in April 2017. (You can visit her blog by clicking here)
What are your 3 beauty product essentials?
An excellent micellar water, sunscreen, and a great face mask!
What are your opinions on a skincare regime?
I invest in my skincare regime, financially and time-wise. I don’t like wearing heavy foundation or make up every day so to me; healthy, glowing, flawless skin is the goal.
Any tips for picking out the best foundation?
I’m more of a fan of a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. I find that a lot of foundations feel too heavy on the skin. I like to feel my skin breathe. But regarding picking one, I always ask for samples and try the products for at least a week. Also, make sure someone takes a pic of you wearing the foundation and see how it translates on camera. I’ve bought foundations in the past and then after seeing a photo of me wearing it, realized it’s the completely wrong shade!
Do you remember your first makeup item? If so what was it?
My mom gave me one of her half-used red Elizabeth Arden lipsticks. I treasured it with my whole heart. I loved the smell and the pigment.
What cosmetics brand have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?
Drunk Elephant. They’re a Canadian brand using beautiful ingredients and have good ethics and values.
Do you have a favourite place to shop for makeup?
Once a year when I’m in London, I splurge at Liberty. The service is so brilliant, and they have a wide variety of brands under one roof. I also enjoy shopping online when it comes to lipsticks. I love a good nude and a good bright red.
What brand do you think has the best packaging?
I really like Aesop’s packaging.
5 favourite beauty gurus?
Locally I adore Victoria from Kissblushtell and Candice-Lee from In my Bag. Globally I follow The Blushed Lilly, Over Glow Edit. My best friend, Katie who lives in the UK gets to travel for work a lot and always hooks me up with the latest beauty trends.
What do you love about makeup?
The colors! And the ritual of applying makeup. I find it therapeutic.
How often do you wash your make up brushes?
I wash my foundation brushes twice a month and eyeshadow and blusher brushes when the color build-up gets too much, once a month I’d say.
